Dunn's River Falls is a famous waterfall near Ocho Rios, Jamaica :-D

Dunn's River Falls

Dunn's River Falls is a spectacular waterfall near Ocho Rios, where cold mountain water cascades 1,000 feet (300 meters) down naturally terraced steps. Visitors can climb the falls alone or in a guided "human chain," but there's also plenty of swimming, sunbathing and sightseeing to do as well. Those interested in geology will be fascinated with the way the falls renew themselves via regular deposits of calcium carbonate and sodium, and movie buffs will recognize them from films such as Dr. No and Cocktail.
Families will enjoy the swim; the water is mountain runoff and fairly cold, which is perfect on particularly hot days. It's also close to Ocho Rios' land-and-sea attractions and restaurants - spend the day swimming and exploring Dunn's River Falls and finish up relaxing in town.

 Practical Info

Dunn's River Falls are about three miles (4.8 km) from Ocho Rios and about 70 (112 km) from Montego Bay. While it's a rapidly growing resort area and a popular cruiseline excursion, Dunn's River Falls is relatively unspoiled and the hiking is spectacular - the foilage is astounding and dipping in the river is not to be missed...

History

Dunns River Falls plaque
At the bottom of the falls, a plaque, that states it was placed by the Jamaican Historical Society in 1967 reads: NEAR THIS SPOT WAS FOUGHT THE BATTLE OF LAS CHORRERAS IN 1657, WHEN THE ENGLISH DEFEATED THE SPANISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE FROM CUBA.

Geology

Dunn’s River Falls are fed by spring water, which is rich with calcium carbonate and is depositing travertine.[3] Such waterfalls are described by geologists as "a living phenomenon" because they are continuously rebuilt by the sediments in spring water.Dunn's River Falls is one of the very few travertine waterfalls in the world that empties directly into the sea.
Also, another geological feature of Ocho Rios is Mystic Mountain.

TheBlue_lagoon most famous place in Portland and one of the legendary beauty spots in the world. A natural favorite for swimmers as the mix of fresh and salt water offers an unusual bathing experience. They say the lagoon is bottomless and that a sort of dragon resides there. But in reality Blue Lagoon is and enchanting spot with deep blue water fed by a fresh water mineral spring.
Made famous by a certain Brooke Shields movie and the site of a well-publicised Jacques Cousteau dive, the 52m-deep (170.6ft) 'Blue Hole' (as locals call it) opens to the sea through a narrow funnel, but is fed by freshwater springs that come in at about 40m (131ft) deep.
Truly on of the most beautiful and enchanting sites in all of Jamaica!
